Crazy Home Mini quilt

Here it is, my crazy scrappy mini quilt!

When I had done my crazy blocks I got the idea for the centre block. I wanted to display this mini somewhere in the house and have a perfect spot in the hall. I thought it would be a nice "welcome" type quilt to display. I appliqued the letters on and pieced tiny 1 inch squares in each colour around them to tie the quilt together.

For the same reason I decided to use a natural cotton/linen rather than a white solid - the blocks are so colourful that I felt they would pop almost too much against the white for the place I want to hang it and I wanted the tones to be a little muted.

I quilted it in a free motion stippled pattern using a natural cotton thread. I used a poly batting which is a higher loft than my normal cotton batting, which gives it a little extra body.

The binding is a colorful dotty fabric that I spotted on Monday when I went to buy some more white solid fabric at my local shop - its a lightweight cotton and is perfect for binding.

Quilt Stats:

Name: Crazy Home Mini Quilt
Fabric: Scraps & cotton/linen sashing
Batting: Poly
Size: 29" x 29"
Quilting: FMQ using natural cotton thread
Pattern: The crazy block tutorial from Aneela Hoey's Crazy Scrappy QAL.

Another finish for my Summer Sewing list - I'll be posting the mid-summer check in linky on Saturday, so get your posts ready people! This is off to be hung in my hall to welcome us into the house. Its got so many of my favourite fabrics in it, scraps from lots of projects I've made, scraps I've received from friends in swaps - really, this little quilt has a lot of meaning for me.

More scrappy blocks!

Glad so many of you liked my crazy scrappy blocks yesterday!! So, here are the other 3 scrappy blocks for my mini:

Blue:

Teal (ish)!:

Purple:

Which is your favourite? I love, love, love the purple one! These, together with the green block make up my cool colours:

and I love the red one and the pink one from yesterday. These blocks are so fun and filled with scraps of my favourite fabrics - I can tell you now this mini is staying in my house!

Now I need to put together this mini quilt top. Hoping this all works, it could all go horribly wrong this morning! I'm linking this up to {Sew} Modern Monday - go have a look at some of the other lovely projects :-)

I'm really back now....sewing fun with some crazy blocks!

Well, I'm sure its been more obvious than I hoped that my quilting and sewing mojo has been struggling a little lately, what with work stress, general life stuff and all. When I look back over my posting the last month or 6 weeks its been a bit thin on the ground. But a break is maybe the best thing for you in situations like that and when I got back on Thursday morning I was all refreshed and ready for action! After cutting all my Kaleidoscope triangles on Thursday afternoon (in betweeen catching up on the mountain of holiday laundry - how does that happen, when you are washing when you are away too?? It's a mystery to me!) I was chomping at the bit yesterday to get sewing again. But I wanted something fresh, not a big project, something fun, something I didn't have to think about too much that would inspire me! I rumaged around in my UFO box and found this crazy scrappy block that I did back in April:

Officially I'm supposed to be doing this as a QAL but I kind of fell off the wagon. Not least because I really struggled to bring this block up to 11". And I just couldn't see myself doing a whole quilt of them, for whatever reason. But it was in the back of my head, and when I saw Hadley's GORGEOUS crazy scrappy quilt and realised she had done her blocks smaller, it made me think a bit more about it. Then, the other day, it jumped into my head and I got an idea for a mini quilt I could make with the scrappy blocks. So last night I took out my scrap basket and had the best fun running up these 4 blocks in my warm colours:

I did them to 8" square and it worked so much better, they flew together and it felt completely different to the last time I did this block. I then trimmed back my green block to 8" to match.

Now I'm off this morning to take out my 2nd scrap basket with the cool colours and get going with the rest. The kids are fully occupied watching Jake and his pirates and the coast is clear for some serious Saturday morning sewing. Bliss!!

Wednesday WIP once again!

Where did that week go? It just slipped away, one leisurely day after another! So without further ado, here we go with the WIP report for this week.

Completed:

A few small, fun projects, including, just tonight, this Central Park wedge pincushion, lightly quilted from the scraps I had after cutting my lovely, yummy, scrummy half yards which arrived in the post today. I'm going to be including this in my scrappy giveaway tomorrow so stay tuned :-)

I also did this blanket for my friend's baby girl - its backed with lovely soft minky dot fabric and has a few of my fave fabrics in there.

And this little zipped bag with some scraps:

Work In Progress:

I'm surprising myself with the amount of projects I have on the go at the moment. The list is starting to freak me out ever so slightly, particularly since I have a commissioned quilt I need to start next week. I'm kind of wondering why I joined 2 quiltalongs this week - the Bottled Rainbows (finally!) which I am doing in a mini version - with smaller sized individual blocks as placemats. Here's my red block, I think I like it! Just need to figure out what to use to bind it and it'll be done.

I also joined the Crazy Scrappy quiltalong. I attempted my first block last night and really, its a good lesson in why you shouldn't sew late at night. I'm not that happy with the construction of this block but like the look of it so I'm going to leave it for the moment. I did it entirely from my small scrap basket and really, it would need some wider, longer scraps too. I'm looking forward to doing another and seeing how I get on!

Let me just say that I blame all you bloggy friends who are doing these quiltalongs and cajoled me/inspired me into them! When I fall down with exhaustion I'll blame you! You know who you are!

In other WIPs - I got my mini Dresden quilt basted and started to quilt it with a meandering FMQ which is looking interesting on the poly batting but didn't get far as the kids needed their dinner :-)  I'm thinking this will finish up as a wall hanging.

Finally, my backing and binding fabric arrived (with the Central Park) this morning so I'm hoping to get moving with the It's a Hoot quilt later in the week, I'm keen to get it finished in good time.

Started:

I cut my Central Park fabric as soon as it arrived. Isn't it just gorgeous? I love the cool shades and can't wait to get piecing with it. I'll be making Kate Conklin's Skittles pattern with it. So now I have two quilts in the cutting stage (also my Sherbet Pips Pinwheels).

And a little extra.......

So, I take it from all the comments on my last post that a giveaway is in order. Check back in tomorrow for your chance to win some of my lovely scraps, big and small and the little Central Park pincushion in the top photo!

I'll be linking this up to some great blogs including, as always,
